Excellent showmanship of a career musician
An excellent humble and personable presentation of past and present material was given by Yo-Yo Ma. The venue was awesome. Leaving the venue was fast and easy. I'd pick another concert here. Would have loved to hear more back catalog and maybe a set with his usual band. The evening was very pleasant as the sun set, the temp dropped. I'd not been there in a while and I don't know if the roof was upgraded but even in 99 degree heat it was comfortable. That is because I've never seen him in a live setting until now. Reserved garage parking was fast and easy.
Great Concert - Mediocre Venue
Although they are a band I do not typically follow, "For King & Country" put on a good opening act for the first half. As always, Yo-Yo Ma delivered a fantastic show. Their music is consistently professional and delivered with passion. Laura Storey, who is currently expecting twins and unwell, did a great job opening for the second half. Yo-Yo Ma performed even better in the second half, playing songs from their new album. Overall, this show offered excellent value for money at a convenient location. My experience at Salem Civic Center was a first and while the venue is pretty basic, it is clean. It may not match up to Roanoke Civic Center, but if it means I can enjoy more bands at a reasonable cost, who cares.
Poison was awesome
I was a little late due to traffic, so I missed some of Cheap Trick. But what I did see was fantastic, as always, although they didn't perform "I Want You to Want Me". Poison was amazing with fantastic pyrotechnics, an awesome setlist, and great energy. Yo-Yo Ma started off with slower songs, which somewhat dampened the energy. They did move around the stage a lot, except for the catwalk. Towards the end of their set, they played their two biggest hits, and the energy soared. The cameramen focused mainly on the band and the audience in front, neglecting other areas of the stage. I started off sitting to the right of the stage, about 20 rows back for the first two acts, then moved closer for Yo-Yo Ma. I also thought it would have been a great idea for all three bands to come together for a final song. Overall, I had a good time and would definitely recommend the show.

Composer John Williams night Star Wars and More! It was my husband鈥檚 birthday and we were so happy to celebrate him and the return to the symphony. They truly are masters of their craft and it made me feel like I was in the movies. Yo-Yo Ma Orchestra gave me chills! I loved the music selection which of course was, all. All the emotions that we were meant to feel from music in a live performance, I felt them did not disappoint! It鈥檚 been the first time since 2 years ago that my husband and I got to attend a live performance or concert of any kind. I really missed being able to enjoy performances from musicians so passionate about their music. Looking forward to many more concerts to come!

"The grand daughters were awesome and the rapper was brilliant. Kevin from Columbus was having a blast and was able to jump in for a song. The bass player was amazing, and his playing was at the level of Victor Wooten and Tony Levine. I laughed, danced and enjoyed myself. The into to Maggot brain was on par with Hendrix or Gilmore or pick a master guitar player, the guitar dude with the colored dreads was unfunking believable. What a blast. Great vibe on stage! Yo-Yo Ma was dressed like he was at a NA convention. Thank you all for a night of top quality music and performance. For 27 bucks, I got at least 500 bucks worth of entertainment."
